The Gold Coast, renowned for its stunning beaches and vibrant nightlife, also offers some of the best stargazing spots in Queensland. Whether you’re an amateur astronomer, an astrophotographer, or simply looking to marvel at the night sky, we’ve collected some of our favourite places to look up.
Tips: To get the best view of the stars, you will need clear skies (no clouds), darkness (avoid light pollution, full moons, etc), and the higher the better!
Springbrook Research Observatory, Gold Coast Hinterland
On Friday and Saturday nights you can visit Springbrook Research Observatory with knowledgeable stargazers to guide you.
Hang Gliders Lookout, Mount Tamborine
A great place for a sunset picnic high in the mountain – stay a little later to see the milk way rise!
Fingal Head Lighthouse
Fingal Head is simply a beautiful spot at night.
Currumbin Rock
Currumbin isn’t an especially great place for gazing at the stars with a naked eye, but with Currumbin Rock pointing sharply towards the rising Milky Way, it’s the perfect place for some long-exposure astrophotography.
